In these earliest months, your baby is growing, discovering, and forming important connections each day. Our infant classroom provides a safe, consistent environment where loving care helps babies feel secure as they begin to explore. Through responsive, individualized care, we support each stage of early development.

Infant Developmental Milestones (6 weeks - 12 Months)

Language Development

  • Responds to familiar voices and name

  • Coos, babbles, and makes early vocal patterns

  • Uses gestures (waving, pointing) near 9 – 12 months

  • May say early repeated sounds or simple words

Social & Emotional Development

  • Forms secure attachments with caregivers

  • Shows comfort with familiar adults and awareness of separation

  • Expresses emotions through smiles, cries, and laughter

  • Engages in early interactive social play (peek-a-boo)

 Sensory Development

  • Responds to sights, sounds, textures, and movement

  • Explores environment through sensory play

  • Enjoys music, rhythm, and gentle movement 

Physical Development (Gross & Fine Motor)

  • Builds head and core strength; tolerates tummy time

  • Reaches, grasps, and transfers objects

  • Rolls, sits, crawls, and begins pulling to stand

  • May begin cruising or early steps with support

Cognitive Development

  • Explores objects through touch, sound, and mouthing

  • Understands simple cause and effect

  • Tracks objects visually and shows curioisty

  • Recognizes routines and familiar caregivers

Spiritual & Relational Growth 

  • Experiences consistent love and nurturing care

  • Engages in simple Bible stories, songs, and prayer moments

  • Builds trust, security, and early sense of belonging

St. Clement Academy Infant Classroom Activities

Activity Description
Circle Time Infants will learn about shapes, numbers, and colors.
Curriculum Infants will observe, play, connect, and respond while engaging with teachers in cognitive skill development.
Fine Motor Development Infants will be given manipulatives to aid in building fine motor development, such as pinching and grasping.
Gross Motor Development Teachers will help infants master sitting up, crawling, standing, walking, etc.
Outside Exploration Infants will be able to explore the great outdoors throughout the day.
Sensory Stimulation Infants will explore different textures, shapes, and sounds.
Spiritual Development Infants will hear bible stories, songs, scriptures, and prayers every morning. Morning Prayer and Daily Devotion are an important part of the day. In addition to this, the Chaplain will visit once a week for Chapel.
Tummy Time Infants will strengthen their neck, core, and shoulder muscles while exploring new toys.

* Diaper, feeding, and nap times will vary according to the infant’s individual needs.
